HUMANITY’S CHILD:
A MUSICAL FOR TODAY!
NEW YORK THEATER FESTIVAL - 2019
THE PLAYERS THEATRE OFF-BROADWAY July 29-Sept 1, 2019
Humanity’s Child: A Musical for Today is literally just that: “for today!”
It emerges from real life and the experiences of young people as they march for their lives (#MarchForOurLives), and especially young women as they navigate the complex world of gender relations in the 21st century.
Featuring an all-female cast of young “20-somethings,” aka Humanity’s Cousins, collectively representing their global peers; and one among them, Humanity’s Child representing every individual “child of humanity,” young, old, and in-between.
The story of Humanity’s Child, who, having grown up in a loving and protective family, surrounded by “older-wiser” cousins, has only just begun to be aware of the world around her; a world of dissonance, discord, and danger. And how she encounters her fears and anxieties about the future, struggling to make sense in a terror-filled world. The Giver, with a lot of musical help from Humanity’s Cousins, offers support and guidance as they encourage Humanity’s Child to participate joyfully in life; to connect with others; and, to speak with a common voice for what she knows is right.
